“Wild Bill” Johnson is an award-winning educator by day and a ballroom dancing karaoke rapper by night…and a playwright on the weekends. He has lived in Northeast Ohio his entire life. He graduated from The University of Akron in 1998 and has been teaching Mathematics and Computer Programming for the past 27 years. He began writing plays in the spring of 2023. He has included his experiences as a teacher in his plays, along with his life journey as an early widower. A few of his consistent themes are trauma-based humor, supporting and advocating for LBGTQ+ rights and strong female STEM characters.
One of his 10-minute plays, Princess Lily and the Greedy Wizard, received a staged reading at the 2025 Border Light Festival. Two other plays (The Life of Lily and Claire the Chair Presents: The History of Broadway) have received readings. Silly first date is his first play to receive a full production, and won best play for night two of the10-Minute Play Festival at Center Stage in Israel in June of 2026. The Offseason, a one act play that has since been expanded into a musical, is scheduled to be performed at Quannapowitt Players in November of 2026.
